The Center City Chamber Orchestra stands in solidarity with those protesting racial injustice in Philadelphia, across the United States, and around the globe. We are deeply disturbed by the historical lack of accountability for violent acts of racism and police brutality, stemming from an oppressive system that has existed for centuries. White supremacy is embedded into classical music on all levels; from the canonical repertoire, barriers of entry to minority students, and access in disadvantaged communities. We believe it to be our duty to work towards making classical music more approachable and accessible for those who have been historically marginalized. Currently, the CCCO is exploring ways to renew this commitment and will continue to expand and diversify our offerings going forward. We encourage our community to read, donate, and support Black-owned businesses.
